Message from the Chairman

The environment connecting consumers and businesses in Japan today is harsh. It is hardly an exaggeration to say that these two parties are essentially linked as adversaries. This state of affairs is not ideal for society, and various efforts from various perspectives have been made to address the situation.

The Association of Consumer Affairs Professionals (ACAP) gathers professionals from the sections of corporate and business organizations who come into contact with the voices of consumers on a daily basis, seeking to improve the perspectives on each side through diligent mutual study. Its goals are to communicate the voice of consumers to businesses, as an intermediary, and to improve how businesses approach consumers to build trust in business enterprises.

At present, ACAP has nearly 600 member companies. It is the only organization of its kind in which personnel in charge of practical business operations play a leadership role. Naturally, it has developed an important and highly significant presence for companies seeking to be more consumer-oriented. At the same time, it also has high expectations and support from consumer organizations, government agencies, and other parties, and its roles and responsibilities are expected to grow.

To protect and further the interests of consumers, in addition to various studies by administrative organizations and the development of laws and regulations, our roles and responsibilities as specialists on consumer issues within companies will grow ever more important. The ACAP will strive to strengthen its activities and services to respond fully to the expectations of society.
